Summary of Mistborn The Final Empire PDF
Mistborn: The Final Empire is a fantasy novel written by American author Brandon Sanderson, published on October 17, 2006. It is the first book in the Mistborn trilogy and was followed by The Well of Ascension (2007) and The Hero of Ages (2008).
The story takes place on the fictional world of Scadrial. On Scadrial, allomancers are able to ingest and “burn” metals to gain superhuman abilities. In the time of Final Empire, a dark lord named Lord Ruler has been ruling over mankind for around a thousand years. Kelsier, an allomancer who escaped from the Lord Ruler’s prison, becomes determined to overthrow the Final Empire with the help of his small band of thieves.
In 2008, Tor Books published a four-volume boxed set edition of the novels in hardcover limited to 10,000 copies; each volume was bound in cloth with stamped lettering on spine and front boards. The set also included new art not included in previous editions or printings; it was sold only through independent booksellers because it had been printed on demand using technology licensed from Ingram Book Company.
One thing that I have to say about this novel is that it is indeed a very entertaining read. The world-building is excellent, the characters are interesting and complex, and the plot is well thought out. The story itself is quite compelling and addictive. It’s just that there are some problems with this book in terms of pacing, characterization and writing style.
The pacing of this novel can be quite slow at times, especially in the beginning chapters where we have to learn about the world that Kelsier lives in and how he came to be a Mistborn. This may turn off some readers who aren’t willing to invest time into learning about this new world before getting into the real action of the story.
Above all, the characterization of most of Sanderson’s characters seems pretty good at first glance but after reading through most of this novel, I started noticing some flaws here and there. Some of them seem too perfect or infallible while others seem too weak or stupid for their own good.
