The Horse and His Boy is the earliest of C. S. Lewis‘ Narnia books, but it’s also one of the most beloved. Set in the fictional land of Narnia, this book follows a young boy named Peter who learns about his true identity as a son of Aslan, the Great Lion.
Along with his brother Edmund, Peter travels to Narnia where he learns about the other children of Aslan and how they are all related to each other. The story begins when Peter and his brother Edmund are given an old horse by their Aunt Polly that has been used by their father for many years.
They name him stableboy because he is always in their way when they’re practicing chases or races on their own land in England. While they are playing around with stableboy, Edmund falls into some mud and gets hurt badly enough that he has to be taken home by his nursemaid Lucy Pevensie (who was visiting them as part-time help).
